Our Vineyard

Small region. Serious wine.

A remarkable place to grow wine.

Q Wine sits within the Waitaki Valley in North Otago, inside the Waitaki Whitestone UNESCO Global Geopark. Ancient limestone-rich soils, a cool, dry climate and a long growing season give the vineyard time rather than speed.

Our vines

Three varieties. Six hectares.

Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris are grown across six hectares. The vineyard is hand-pruned and hand-harvested, with low yields and individual clones followed closely through each season.

The climate

Cool. Dry. Slow.

The Waitaki is one of New Zealand's latest wine regions to harvest. Long ripening gives flavour time to develop while retaining freshness and structure.

The soil

Limestone, gravel and time.

The vineyard sits on limestone-rich soils with alluvial gravels and silts, part of a landscape formed over millions of years.

How we farm

Hand tended. Sustainably grown.

The vineyard is managed with care and close attention to each growing season, using sustainable practices with a nod to biodynamic principles.
