Wine Notes — Wine Notes

FROM THE VINEYARD
Single vineyard, Waitaki Valley. Limestone-based soils spread through river gravels. Maritime influenced. Planted in 2005 at 4,000 vines per hectare. Clones 2/15, Barrie and Lincoln Berry Smith.
IN THE CELLAR
Whole-bunch pressed and fermented cool. Ten percent of the blend spends three weeks in French oak, one to four years old, then returns to tank. No fining, sterile filtered.
IN THE GLASS
Dry, fresh and generous. Baked apple, nectarine and sweet ginger over a textural palate, with a fine mineral line.
Q Pinot Gris has a cellaring potential that often surprises. The natural acidity of the Waitaki Valley preserves freshness and fruit character, while time in the bottle brings greater texture, richness and complexity.
AT THE TABLE
Vietnamese and Thai dishes with chilli and lime.

“A bright and electric Pinot Gris, beautifully crunchy fruit supported by acid tension; a waxy, oily palate flows along chalky minerals to a lengthy, crisp finish.”

“Complex, ripe, varietal and fruity core with with scents of pomaceous fruits, pear and quince , some red apple and plenty of cool climate white spice layers. Weighty and satin-cream textured as the wine touches the palate, flavours mirror the bouquet led by pear then apple, some citrus pith notes then the spice continues. Balanced and well made withy a lengthy finish. Best drinking from early 2025 through 2028.”

The Real Review

“This has a lifted and aromatic nose with juicy lemonade apple aromas, wild herbs and chamomile. Intriguing notes of spice lurk within, whilst remaining fresh and lively on the whole. This changes gears on the palate, where the very tangy acidity underpins considerable weight and concentration of fruit which shows a beautifully grainy, chalky texture and sustained, complex notes of spice and dried flowers through to a long finish. The balance between acidity and fruit here is remarkable; it can easily cellar for the mid-term”

“An alluring Pinot Gris with an oily mouthfeel adorned with chalky phenolics, refreshing acidity carries pure fruit and floral details to a poised, lengthy, dry finish.”
